These traditionally meditative creations can be as complex or as simple as you would like. Play with pattern and design to make your own centering mandala with everyday items.

Before you begin, make sure you've gathered all the necessary supplies.

Artists' Exchange Free Crafts Cardboard Mandala matierals for the craft including cardboard, tape, scissors, glue

Supplies Needed:

  • Empty Thin Cardboard Box

  • Round Template

  • Crayons or Markers

  • Scissors

  • Glue

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1:

Gather materials and take apart your box so that it is a flat sheet of cardboard.

Step 2:

Using something round that is the size of your cardboard, trace and cut out a circle. Your template can be any ordinary circle. We used a funnel but you can use a roll of tape or a large lid from a container. If you cannot find a template, you can start with a square or freehand your circle.

Step 3:

Cut up small scraps of cardboard. These can be colored and then cut or you can leave them the natural brown.

Step 4:

Lay out your pattern, starting in the very center. You may need to cut more pieces or customize the size of some pieces to fit your design.

Step 5:

Glue down your pieces. You can use a glue stick or a bottle of glue, any type is fine.

Step 6:

If you chose to leave your mandala the natural color you can color them once the glue is dry or leave them just the way they are. Enjoy!
