TheGallery for ‘CHANGE Campaign is raising funds to renovate our community gallery space. Our goal is to create a viewing environment that compliments the incredible and unique artwork by our Gateways to Change artists, students, staff and visiting artists.
Vision of Gallery
The curation and promotion of exciting exhibits in a beautiful space will benefit the artists and support the work of our non-profit organization. The local community will also benefit by having access to a gallery in their immediate vicinity, a resource which is hard to come by in Cranston.
Improvements will include the installation of a professional gallery hanging system and renovation of the interior surfaces to a clean, modern design. A state of the art hanging system will provide ease of display and minimal damage to walls by utilizing a flexible system of cables and hooks; a clean design will provide the appropriate background to let the artwork be the focal point.
Howard is amassing a truly prolific, visually stunning and cohesive body of work with his impasto “paper paintings”. In this series he covers paper with multiple layers of acrylic paint. These layers are so thick that the paper takes on a new form, completely removed from the original paper, into something almost plasticized and canvas-like. The majority of his work depicts circles painted either in a thin line over the thick underlayer, or as an equally thick and juicy brush stroke. The bold circle motif appearing and reappearing, piece after piece, creates a very exciting and coherent visual statement that deserves to grace the fresh walls of a new gallery space.
-Reed Mclaren Artists' Exchange Gallery Curator
Art means a lot to me, it is my favorite subject. It is something that I like to do in my free time and I love everything about it. Artists’ Exchange also means a lot to me. It is like a second home where I can go to feel safe.
When I make art, I love to use a pencil first then Sharpies to make detailed patterns. I like to be able to put my art in art shows. At Artists’ Exchange I take drawing classes and I also enjoy working with clay and helping others in clay class who may need it. I also take a felting class that is a lot of fun. I went to Snow Farm to take a weekend long felting class so I could come back to Artists’ Exchange and show others how to do felting. During the summer I work with the kids during summer camp as a teacher assistant. I love to help in any way I can especially when it comes to making art.
